All About Compounding

What is Compounding?

Many individuals don’t respond to traditional methods of treatment and sometimes need their medication adjusted in ways that aren’t manufactured. Compounding is a way for our pharmacy to create personalized medications that are specific to you and your needs. This practice includes state-of-the-art technology, high-quality ingredients, and the most current medical knowledge to ensure you get the best care possible.

A Compounding Pharmacist Can:

  • Alter a drug form to make it easier for you to use, such as by making a sublingual troche or lozenge, lollipop, transdermal gel or cream, or a liquid suspension

  • Add flavour to make the medication more palatable

  • Adjust the amount of medication in each dose to avoid having to split tablets and to provide the most appropriate dose for each individual.

  • Remove ingredients that you may be allergic to, such as lactose, sugar, dyes, or alcohol.

  • Combine various medications or supplements into single dosage forms for easier administration.

  • Adjust the dosage form based on your dietary restrictions, such as by using vegan capsules!

Is it safe and legal?

We adhere strictly to the Standards of Practice set out by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities for Non-Sterile Compounding. We ensure that all of our products are made to the utmost standard and our compounders are trained in the best ways to keep your medications safe.

What can we compound?

This isn't an exhaustive list, so if you don't see your medication here, don't worry! Give us a call, and our compounding team will be happy to discuss what we can do to solve your healthcare needs.

Who can get a compound?

  • I’m a Patient: Give us a call or visit our store to speak with one of our compounding team members. They will ask questions about your medications, allergies, and preferences to determine how we can best meet your individual healthcare needs!

  • I’m another Provider: Contact our pharmacy to speak to one of our compounding pharmacists about your patient and their specific needs. We will work together to provide the best solution for their specific prescription, making adjustments as needed.

  • I’m another Pharmacist/Pharmacy: Contact our pharmacy to speak with a compounding team member about your patient's specific healthcare needs. We will collaborate to meet their individual requirements and are able to create a contract that will allow us to compound a solution to send to your pharmacy.
